A Book for Every Child

This year, I stepped into a new role as Board Chair for RORGNY. But it was years ago that I first got involved, when I learned about the Reach Out and Read model for promoting childhood literacy and healthy parent-child relationships.

RORGNY does amazing work in partnership with pediatric healthcare providers at hundreds of sites across the City. Through these sites, we distribute over 250,000 children’s books to families that might not otherwise be able to afford them. Just as importantly, our team teaches doctors and nurses how to talk to new parents about the importance of reading to their children.

If your parents ever read to you, or you ever read to your children, you understand the power of Reach Out and Read. But the model only works if those of us who can help, do help.
